Carmarthenshire Drug Intervention Programme & Drug Rehabilitation Requirement

We have been working in partnership with the Dyfed Powys Probation trust since November 2008 to deliver its Drug Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR) which is a community sentence for people whose offending is linked to their drug use. 

In November this year (2009) we opened a programme new to South West Wales, the Rapid Access Prescribing Service (RAPS) in partnership with the Drug Intervention Programme (DIP).  The RAPS is designed to give people who are criminally active quick access into treatment enabling them to reduce and stop offending in order to obtain drugs.  Working closely with other services including GPs the aim is to provide intensive treatment in order to stabilise the most chaotic drug users offering them a window of opportunity to make long lasting changes.

Other short term plans include a harm reduction service including hepatitis B vaccination and Hepatitis C screening.  Two of our nurses have also embarked on the Independent Nurse Prescribing course through the University of Wales, Swansea.

The entire team is passionate about providing an accountable, effective and accessible service to individuals with substance misuse problems and improving the lives of their families and communities in the process.
