Kingston-Upon-Thames Drug Services
The Kaleidoscope Kingston Drugs Service ethos is to offer more than simply a prescribing service. Supporting people on their journey to recovery involves working with them as individuals and addressing their major issues such as housing, employment or education. We recognise that we are part of a continuum of treatment which is needed to support individuals who have complex needs requiring seamless interaction and communication with a range of other local partners who may also be working with our client. In order to achieve this we work in close partnership with a range of Community providers.
The In-house services available at the project are as follows:
Community prescribing serviceThis service offers rapid access (within 3 working days) into a drugs treatment programme offering appropriate substitute medication to alleviate withdrawal and cravings to reduce the use of illicit or non-prescribed drugs. We have an on-site dispensary so that we can monitor our clients and they can be actively involved in their own treatment progress. A nurse is always present to ensure there is support to the client if they have any medical concerns. We offer non appointment as well as appointment based clinics so that those who struggle to make and keep appointment have access to medical support.
All clients receive one-to-one care-planning and co-ordination and structured interventions to support them in their treatment. We work closely with other voluntary organisations, employment services and statutory services to treat clients holistically and ensure that the drugs treatment programme is part of a total package of care.
Assertive and targeted Outreach to reach those who are unwilling or unable to engage with mainstream services and to support those at risk of disengaging from treatment
Our Outreach team engages with vulnerable or high-risk individuals who are not currently in treatment to help them identify appropriate treatment options and support them to engage or re-engage with services. This is an assertive and pro-active Service reaching out to work in partnership with all other local agencies. We provide a friendly and informed point of contact. We engage and work with a diverse range of communities we are able to reach people who do not currently present to treatment services.
Harm Reduction services including Needle Exchange and Blood Borne Virus interventions
Our first priority is to keep clients safe. Our Harm reduction services include Needle Exchange, a full range of Blood Borne Virus interventions including screening and vaccinations, safer injecting advice and guidance, Overdose prevention training, and relapse prevention support. The service is supported by a specialist nurse who can deliver one-to-one support and support individuals to decide if a prescribing service may work for them. We also work with health services to ensure individuals access the treatment and support they need.
Advocacy and support for individuals with a dual diagnosis of both substance misuse and mental health needs
This service offer individuals with a Dual Diagnosis of mental health and substance misuse needs support to ensure that they have access to and the assistance they need to engage with appropriate mental health services.
This service offers a full range of Tier 2 interventions including ad hoc, crisis and advocacy interventions and information and onward referral. In addition we provide a Single Point of Contact for Jobcentre Plus referrals. We also offer on line learning courses and access to our computer suite which is a first step for many of our clients looking to access re-training courses.
At the heart of our service is the service user. We promote service user engagement in service development and also to ensure they are central to setting goals and objectives in their treatment and care plans.
