Service User Empowerment - K-Force

K-Force

This year, the Newport service had their first formal meeting with the aim of forming their own service user group, choosing KForce (Kaleidoscope Force) as the group name, and electing a chair and secretary.

User Empowerment

The main aims of this group include developing a peer mentoring team for new and existing service users, and acting as ‘buddies’ to assist and inspire new and existing service users in their treatment programme. They are also on hand to help deal with any client/service issues and will liaise with service management for inclusion at staff interviews, local SMAT meetings and other inter-agency meetings where possible.

In order to achieve their goals, and successfully implement initiatives, KForce and Kaleidoscope organised an ongoing training programme for members of the group.

Members of KForce have also set up their own cafe at Powells Place. This is run entirely by the service users and is open daily providing tea, coffee and light meals. There is also internet access in the cafe for all our service users.
