On Saturday 8th September, FAVOR UK hosted the 10th Annual Recovery Walk in Shrewsbury. Nearly 5,000 people attended, including staff and volunteers from our services. Our CEO, Martin Blakebrough said that “the UK Recovery Walk is a time for people to embrace their recovery from addiction, rather than hide it. The importance of the Recovery Walk is people being able to say ‘I am proud of who I am.'”
The walk attracted a lot of support from residents in Shrewsbury with many stopping to watch, wave and take photographs as the walk progressed on its 1.5 mile route. Shop keepers showed their support, with some closing up to step outside and watch. After the walk, the participants gathered at the Quarry Town Park to mingle and listen to live acts on the stage. Also on offer were Mutual Aid groups including SMART Recovery and Alcoholics Anonymous who offered sessions during the afternoon.
Whilst there, our CEO got talking to staff and service users from other organisations and we were able to capture this great picture of him with Rondine Molinaro, our Residential Services Lead, Jon Royle, CEO of The Bridge, Mark Moody, CEO of CGL, Paul Townsley, CEO of Humankind and Annemarie Ward, CEO of the organisation that co-ordinated the Recovery Walk, FAVOR UK.
