Mike McNamara of Big Mac’s wholly soul band once wrote a song for Kaleidoscope:
Mike says of ‘Come On In Out of the Cold’:
“I wrote this song at the suggestion of CEO Martin Blakebrough. We were talking about the experience of addiction and all it’s contributory factors and it got me thinking about my own experiences. There was always that sense of isolation, of alienation, of being outside the mainstream, as if other people, ‘them’ – ‘the straights’ knew something, even possessed something that I didn’t.
A great sense of inadequacy, resentment, self pity and that negative ability to blame other people, places and things for my situation instead of accepting responsibilty for my own self. It’s all in the song. It’s just a case of stepping in from our own self-imposed exile and joining the human race. Flawed though the system is, it’s all we got!
We’ve got to work together our we’re outside on our jack again!”
